NEW ONSTYLE UPDATE 3.5 – Improvements and New Features
OnStyle 3.5 is coming very soon. As always, we spent many tireless hours improving tools already at hand and listening to customer feedback so we can implement some of the features you sought after the most. Innovative new features, enhancements to existing ones, and exciting new Inspections are coming in OnStyle update 3.5. Let’s dive into what you can expect from OnStyle’s latest release.
Framework Changes in OnStyle 3.5
Enhanced Log level switching
After changing logging level, the user is met with a dialog to restart OnStyle. In order for the new logging method to take effect OnStyle must be restarted.
Launching OnStyle with the highest logging level (All) the user is reminded that this setting may negatively impact OnStyle performance; unless the setting is intentional, it should be lowered.
OnStyle startup with temp folder cleanup
OnStyle now purges its “Temp” folder before very startup for safety and performance reasons.
Assign DocConfig improvement with handling missing template
OnStyle now displays an error message window in case the template associated with the DocConfig is unavailable during the DocConfig assignment (for example, if it is accidentally removed or the user lacks permission to access it).
License Activation Dialog Redesign
The License Activation Dialog received a redesign making it easier to select whether the user wishes to start a free trial or input a license key.
Help menu reorganization
The “Help” button has been upgraded to a dropdown menu that contains multiple buttons:
- “User Manual” opens the User Manual document and has the same functionality as “Help” in previous versions.
- “About” opens the About dialog which was previously accessible from the Configuration group dialog launcher.
- “Collect Logs” function moved from the Configuration group under the Help menu.
New or Enhanced Authoring Features in OnStyle 3.5
Custom Default Table Settings
You can now modify default preferences for tables by navigating to Preferences > Tools > Table Properties. Once changed, creating or transforming tables using OnStyle’s tools will use these custom settings. If you are working on a special document and need to place many custom tables, this option will minimize the burden.
- Special table settings
- Number of header rows
- Footer display and type
- Table formatting
Additionally, when using the Apply Table style function you can choose which text-level formatting to keep from the original table. From an extensive list you can choose many options to keep, for example, bold, superscript, cell shading, etc. These options can also be set to default in the Table Properties dialog.
Internal Link tool improvements
The Internal Link Tool now supports recognition and parsing of custom numbering structures. It distinguishes between “Numbering” and “Text” components even in the custom numbering structures.
This new addition is fully compatible with these existing link inserting methods:
- Numbering Only
- Text Only
- Numbering and Text
Import PDF Table
OnStyle now aids the importing of PDF tables. This new feature provides a streamlined mechanism for quickly and easily inserting a table from a PDF file into the document. Currently, the first table that meets the criteria gets inserted. If other tables have the same header row, they get merged into it. The criteria can be set in the tool. Additionally, there is an option to exclude empty rows, which may prevent tables from being merged.
The following attributes can be specified:
- Minimum number of rows/columns
- Number of header rows
- Table format/Table special
- Remove empty rows
- Trim spaces
- Add table caption
- Table caption format
New Validation Feature in OnStyle 3.5
Marker
The marker is a highlight applied to textual sections of the document. It is triggered by selecting an issue in the Validation Results pane. It highlights the precise location of the selected issue.
Marker options can be customized in the Preferences > Tools > Validation tab.
Currently, both static and animated markers are available, and their colors can also be adjusted.

Validation Report Enhancement
- In the “Report Options” section of the Validation Report it is now available to select to include ignored issues in the Validation Report PDF.
- In the “Validation Summary” section of the PDF, it is now displayed whether a module is missing prerequisites.
- In the “Validation Details” section of the PDF, the comments that were added to an issue are now displayed.
New Inspection Modules in OnStyle 3.5
- Standard Style Missing inspection
- Table Not Inline inspection
- Default Tab Stop Changed inspection
New Correction Modules in OnStyle 3.5
- Add Missing Standard Style correction
- Set Table Inline correction
- Reset Default Tab Stop correction
Improved Existing Modules
- Improve correction modules with correct paragraph mark handling
- Remove Hidden Formatting: empty paragraph mark can be corrected
- Remove Highlight: empty bulleted list can be detected and corrected
- Improve Replace Symbol with handling existing whitespaces
- Improve Remove Unwanted Whitespaces with Precedence list of kept whitespace characters
- Handle Track Changes with common helper functions
- Formatted Revision support
