How Can We Help?

Table of Contents

Table of Contents

This checker function helps users to check if the formats of Table of Contents, List of Tables and List of Figures sections of their documents (including the titles of the respective tables and lists) are the same as the ones defined in the RuleSet.

The function lists the incorrectly formatted lists and tables in the Check Results pane. Under the Not valid TOC or LOT format group each line corresponds to a list or table. Clicking on any of the Contents findings will select the whole table or list and navigate to it in the document.

OnStyle offers four automatic fix options. These can be accessed by right clicking on any of the Contents findings.

Fix: Remove

This function deletes the selected table or list from the document but leaves its title in place.

Fix: Remove with Title

This function deletes the selected table or list together with its title from the document.

Fix: Replace

This function changes the formatting of the table or list to the formatting defined in the RuleSet but does not change its title. It offers three format options: Table of Contents, List of Tables and List of Figures.

Fix: Replace with Title

This function changes the formatting of the table or list to the formatting defined in the RuleSet. Also it changes the formatting of the title and changes its text to the title text defined in the RuleSet if necessary. It offers three format options: Table of Contents, List of Tables and List of Figures.

The checker checks all TOC, LOT and LOF found in the document, but the fixes are applied only on the selected table, one table at a time.

How it works

The function checks:

  • the text of the title of the TOC/LOT/LOF
  • the formatting of the title
  • the formatting of the TOC/LOT/LOF table itself
  • the type of the tab leader used in the TOC/LOT/LOF
